After completing the latter part of the 2024 Formula 1 season driving for Williams, where he replaced Logan Sargeant mid-season, the talented Franco Colapinto found himself without a seat for the upcoming season. Flavio Briatore strongly pursued the young Argentine, who will serve as Alpine’s reserve driver in 2025.
Franco Colapinto will not be among the drivers on the grid for the next Formula 1 World Championship. Instead, the Argentine will be Alpine’s standout reserve, joining a team led by Flavio Briatore as they begin the 2025 season with the primary duo of Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan. Rumors suggest, however, that the 2001-born Australian’s position may not be entirely secure, potentially giving Colapinto an opportunity to step in during the season.
From Williams to Alpine: A Multi-Year Deal
After showcasing his talent during the second half of 2024, Franco Colapinto captivated Flavio Briatore, who was determined to bring him into the Enstone team, securing a multi-year agreement.
Maria Catarineu, a member of Colapinto’s entourage, discussed the contract details: “Williams has allowed Franco to join Alpine for five years. However, if another team shows interest in Franco during this period, there could be discussions between Alpine and other teams.”
Flavio Briatore Captivated by Colapinto: “I Want Him”
Catarineu shared insights into the delicate negotiation process during an interview with *Infobae*: “It took a long time because these negotiations are sometimes complex, as was the case here.”
Flavio Briatore played a pivotal role in finalizing the deal: “Flavio’s presence was consistently insistent, becoming even more persistent in recent weeks,” the agent revealed.
Catarineu also highlighted Briatore’s admiration for Colapinto, stating that the Argentine had won over the Italian manager: “He’s been following him since his Formula 1 debut. When we first spoke, he told me, ‘I’ve seen the talent, and I want him.’ Flavio watched every race closely, observing Franco’s growth over all nine races he competed in.”
