Alpine is preparing to tackle the Singapore Grand Prix on the streets of the Marina Bay circuit with Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto determined to bounce back after a disappointing weekend in Azerbaijan. The drivers will face intense heat, high humidity, and challenging corners. While the team has already focused much of its energy on the next championship, securing points and moving up from the bottom of the standings would provide both financial and morale benefits.
The reputation of Singapore
On the tight Marina Bay street circuit, Formula 1 cars race past skyscrapers and historic landmarks under the lights of what was the sport’s first-ever night race. The track tests drivers with close walls, uneven asphalt, and tropical, humid weather conditions, making it one of the most demanding events on the calendar.
Words from the drivers
Pierre Gasly highlighted the challenges that lie ahead in Singapore:
“I’m really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel this week in Singapore. After a weekend full of challenges in Baku, we are once again ready to give our best on one of the most extreme circuits of the season. The Marina Bay track demands maximum concentration. The lap is long, technical, and physically demanding due to the heat, even at night. Over a two-hour race, we lose around five kilos just in sweat and water, so staying well-hydrated and keeping body temperature low is absolutely crucial. We’ve worked a lot during practice sessions to help me perform at my best under these conditions, and I’m really ready to take on the challenge. It’s always a wonderful event, and I love racing under the lights in this city. We’ll do everything we can to seize the opportunities and achieve a strong result this weekend.”
Franco Colapinto on the Singapore challenges
Franco Colapinto also shared his thoughts on the difficulties of this race, focusing on what can be achieved:
“Singapore is undoubtedly one of the toughest races of the season. I experienced this unique physical challenge last year, so I have dedicated time to specific training to prepare for these extreme conditions. The circuit itself is very enjoyable. It’s fast, with many technical sequences, and the races are generally spectacular. Last year I had an interesting start with a very late braking into the first corner! I can’t wait to return. It’s always an incredible experience racing under the lights, and the city is amazing to visit within the context of our sport. We had a complicated weekend in Baku, but the team is focused on the upcoming races, and we will do everything possible to succeed this weekend.”
