Oscar Piastri confirmed that McLaren decided to turn the page following the contact with Lando Norris during the Sprint at the United States Grand Prix. The Woking-based team opted for a tabula rasa approach, clearing tensions and definitively closing the chapter on the Singapore repercussions.
The young Australian admitted a “certain responsibility” in the Austin incident, acknowledging that both drivers have taken valuable lessons from what happened. “There is some fault on my part in the Sprint, but we are starting the weekend from zero,” Oscar Piastri told the media on the eve of the Mexican Grand Prix.
After the closely spaced incidents in Singapore and Austin, McLaren reiterated to its drivers the basic rule for internal coexistence: no contacts on track. “It is clear to everyone: we must not collide, no matter the situation,” emphasized Oscar Piastri. “It does not add pressure; it is simply what is expected from teammates.”
Oscar Piastri on Max Verstappen: Regarding the championship, Piastri spoke about Max Verstappen’s comeback, which has significantly reduced the points gap. While maintaining his composure, the Australian acknowledged that Red Bull has regained pace and consistency.
“The large margin has shrunk, but my goal remains the same: go as fast as possible and maximize every weekend,” he said. “Everyone loves the story of the ‘underdog,’ but I prefer to stay in front.”
According to Oscar Piastri, predictions of strength for Mexico remain uncertain: “In the last few weekends, expectations have not always matched the results. Red Bull has regained form, and we know they will be a threat.”
Internal tension now seems behind them, but the pressure remains extremely high: with Verstappen fully on the comeback trail and Norris closing in in the standings, every point could decide the fate of the World Championship.
