The friendship between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen is well-known in the paddock, but this year, the two have experienced moments of tension due to their battle for the Title. The British driver didn’t expect these consequences but admitted that the bond is not completely broken.
It all started in the United States Grand Prix at the Austrian circuit when the two made contact. The McLaren driver was the one who suffered the most, as he was forced to retire from the race. In the interview ring, the Brit said, “I was expecting a strong but fair battle, and that’s not how it went. If he admits he was stupid and unfair, then I will continue to respect Max.”
A few months later, Lando Norris explained, “For now, I still respect Max, I think he respects me, but maybe ask me again at the end of the year!”
Did Lando Norris expect that what happens on track could affect personal relationships? “In a way, you think the way someone gets along with others can be different from how they act on the track. This is the first time I’ve been in a situation like this.”
Red Bull is no longer as dominant as before, and Verstappen’s victories are no longer as predictable. For instance, he did not win in Mexico City, but we saw his aggressive driving in the battle with Lando Norris.
The Dutch driver’s actions led him to receive two 10-second penalties, but the McLaren driver does not condemn Max Verstappen’s attitude. “He’s doing what he believes is best, even if it’s not always the right action. But he’s doing everything necessary to try to keep me behind him in the Championship, because he and Red Bull are under pressure. We’ve passed them in the Constructors’ Championship, and so has Ferrari.” – the British driver concluded.
