“How Nonsense You Speak”
Max Verstappen in Aston Martin. No, in Mercedes. The 2025 season has yet to begin, but the less-than-stellar – to put it mildly – tests of Red Bull in Bahrain have already fueled several speculations about the Dutchman’s future. The four-time world champion has a contract with Red Bull valid until 2028, but it also includes exit clauses that would allow him to break the agreement if the car’s performance doesn’t meet the ‘minimum’ standards set at the start of 2022 when the six-year extension was announced.
Dutch broadcaster Ziggo Sport, always ready to dissect any official or unofficial movement or statement regarding Verstappen, reported during the Ziggo Sport Café show that Max Verstappen’s private jet had landed in Eindhoven, and half an hour later, Toto Wolff’s plane also stopped at the same airport. The two aircraft then took off one after the other, leading the show’s hosts, including driver Renger Van der Zande, to speculate that there may have been a meeting between Toto Wolff and Max Verstappen.
Journalist Jack Plooij even suggested that Verstappen’s move to Mercedes in 2026 was a done deal, thanks to the clauses in his contract with Red Bull. Currently, Mercedes has no driver under contract for 2026, with George Russell’s deal expiring and Andrea Kimi Antonelli announced only for 2025. However, Jos Verstappen responded on X under the video posted by Ziggo Sport’s official account, immediately dismissing Plooij’s theory. “Jack, Jack, Jack. How nonsense you speak,” said Max’s father.
