No points, many incidents
Being dropped by Red Bull after just two Grands Prix and “demoted” to Racing Bulls in favor of Yuki Tsunoda wasn’t bad enough—Liam Lawson’s 2025 Formula 1 season continues to spiral into a nightmare even within the Faenza-based team.
From a results perspective, the New Zealander is still stuck at zero points in the standings, while his garage mate, Isack Hadjar—despite being a true rookie unlike Liam Lawson—has already collected five points in six Grands Prix. But Liam Lawson’s troubles aren’t limited to the results column. In the Miami Sprint, he was penalized once again for an incident that also cost him the seventh place he had earned on track. The Racing Bulls driver was deemed “predominantly to blame” for the contact that eliminated Fernando Alonso in the closing stages of the short race.
Watch out for a possible race ban
In addition to a five-second time penalty in the Miami Grand Prix, Liam Lawson also received a penalty point, adding to the five he had already accumulated since December 2024—all of which stemmed from incidents he caused. Now sitting at six penalty points, Liam Lawson is halfway to the 12-point threshold that triggers an automatic one-race ban, a rule Kevin Magnussen experienced firsthand last season.
In recent years, race stewards have become more cautious in handing out penalty points—no longer issuing them for infractions like track limits violations—but Lawson must now be particularly careful. Should he collect another six points by the end of November, he will face an automatic suspension for one Grand Prix. Meanwhile, within the Red Bull academy, names like Pepe Martí and Arvid Lindblad are pushing hard for a shot. The pressure on the 2002-born driver is only set to increase.
