Physical issues
Even in the Miami Grand Prix, George Russell confirmed himself as “Mr. Consistency.” The Mercedes driver secured his third podium in six races and his sixth consecutive top-five finish. These results place him fourth in the Drivers’ Championship, just six points behind Max Verstappen. In addition to battling the Dutchman—whom he beat also thanks to the timely entry of the Virtual Safety Car— George Russell also had to deal with… stomach problems in Florida.
Blame the breakfast?
He revealed it himself after the race, speaking to F1’s official channel. “In the last 15 laps I got a horrible stomach cramp and I’m really struggling now,” said the Mercedes driver post-race. “I can’t stand up straight, my stomach is really hurting,” George Russell added, suggesting that his discomfort might have been caused by breakfast. “I need to understand what went wrong. I had a slightly bigger breakfast than usual and that might be the reason.”
Despite the discomfort, George Russell managed well in the final part of the race, holding off Max Verstappen’s attempt to catch him, with the Dutchman finishing just 2.3 seconds behind the Englishman. Red Bull also tried to snatch the podium from Mercedes with a post-race protest, which was rejected by the stewards.
