There’s a photo circulating online that disproves the rumors suggesting that Susie Wolff is just Toto’s wife: she and Lewis Hamilton are on the podium of a go-kart race in England. “I couldn’t open the champagne, and he opened it for me; you could already tell he was winning more than I was,” explained Susie, who, in her prime, had also fought wheel-to-wheel with other world champions. However, the person who doesn’t like sharing the track with the Brit is Mercedes team principal Toto, who doesn’t like being his passenger. “Once Toto did some hot laps with Hamilton, and when he got out, he complained that he wasn’t a great driver. But the truth is, the problem is Toto, because he also grumbles when I drive.”
The Scottish woman then shared her story with Hamilton on *The Red Flags Podcast*: “I have a great relationship with Lewis; we often talk about our go-karting days. What I admire about him is how he has used his voice to make a positive impact on the sport. It’s easy to be like everyone else, but creating your own path is hard. He’s pushed a lot for diversity, brought in a different culture, and today many drivers use the paddock as a runway. He’s done a lot both on and off the track and deserves all the praise. You might think that Lewis jumps into the car and it all comes easily to him, but the truth is he works a lot, in every aspect of his life. He’s completely dedicated to being the best driver he can be.”
