The early months of 2023 seemed to mark a turning point for Lawrence Stroll and his Aston Martin team. Fernando Alonso’s podium finishes, made possible by a car that had left the entire paddock in awe, suggested the possibility of the former Racing Point team becoming contenders for championships in the coming seasons.
However, the latter part of last Formula One season and an underwhelming 2024 season have revealed a different reality than what was initially expected. The AMR24 car has faced numerous challenges, and the zero points accumulated in the last three races appear to have significantly frustrated Lawrence Stroll.
His team currently sits in fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship, with 86 points, with three races remaining in the season.
The ultimatum to the team
According to the German managazine Auto Motor und Sport, the Canadian businessman has issued a clear ultimatum to Aston Martin. The year 2026 has been identified as the final deadline for the team to be able to compete for the title.
In recent months, substantial investments have been made, notably with the recruitment of Adrian Newey and Enrico Cardile. These key figures have been brought in to help fulfill a project that, from the start, has had the world championship as its main objective.
What will happen if Aston Martin is not at the top in 2026? It is difficult to predict at this point. However, it is certain that Stroll will continue to look around for potential new investments in his pursuit of that elusive championship title.
