Fernando Alonso and the unexpected rival: “Watch out for Williams in 2026”. Fernando Alonso doesn’t hide his ambitions but believes Williams could pose a threat.

Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin 2024

The 2025 Formula 1 World Championship is just around the corner, but one team is looking even further ahead, eagerly anticipating the 2026 season and the new technical regulations to try and challenge for the top spot in the category. That team is Aston Martin, owned by magnate Lawrence Stroll and driven by the ever-young-spirited veteran Fernando Alonso. All eyes are naturally on Adrian Newey, the high-profile recruit for the Silverstone-based team.

“In 2026, of course, we’ll have new regulations, and Adrian Newey will join our project starting this April,” Fernando Alonso told DAZN. “So we should be well-prepared to have a strong year, one in which we could even win the championship. That’s a big statement, but expectations are high.”

Fernando Alonso is not hiding his ambitions but believes Aston Martin won’t be the only team making sacrifices in the upcoming season to prepare for the new rules. One team Alonso surprisingly highlighted as worth watching is an unlikely candidate: “If I were a journalist, or just watching Formula 1 at home on TV, I’d definitely consider Williams as a team to watch,” Fernando Alonso unexpectedly suggested. “So it’s only natural that Aston Martin would also be seen that way. We’re all incredibly excited.”
