Jeremy Clarkson’s advice to Lawrence Stroll: “1 billion for Max Verstappen? Madness!”. Jeremy Clarkson's advice to Lawrence Stroll.

Aston Martin

Recently, a shocking story emerged: Canadian magnate and Aston Martin F1 team owner Lawrence Stroll allegedly offered £1 billion to secure the services of champion Max Verstappen. However, the English team denied such an offer, calling it unrealistic.

But where did this rumor come from? The Daily Mail spread the story, claiming Aston Martin was ready to invest a huge sum to lure Verstappen away from Red Bull. If true, it would be the highest offer ever made in F1 history.

Jeremy Clarkson comments: “Pure madness!”
Jeremy Clarkson, known for his direct and unfiltered style, shared his opinion through his column in “The Sun.” The successful host of shows like “Top Gear” and “The Grand Tour” expressed a very clear view: the hypothetical offer is simply “madness.”

Clarkson, a big fan of Verstappen, stated that spending such a sum would be a strategic mistake for Aston Martin. If the team won thanks to Max Verstappen, they would be accused of having “bought” the title, but if they failed to win, they would be ridiculed as the “Manchester City of F1.” In both cases, for Clarkson, the choice would have been disastrous.

Aston Martin’s denial
Aston Martin quickly denied the existence of such an offer, but as often happens in the sports world, official denials leave room for speculation. Clarkson himself joked about this statement, alluding to the classic transfer market dynamic: “The denial is just the beginning of the negotiation.”

Despite the official denial, Clarkson expressed his doubt that the matter was truly closed, suggesting that behind the scenes there could still be ongoing maneuvers.

Why is Verstappen so sought after?
Max Verstappen is undoubtedly one of the most talented drivers in modern F1. A four-time world champion, the young Dutchman has shown exceptional skill on the track, winning the hearts of fans and the respect of his peers. It’s no surprise, then, that teams like Aston Martin, with top-tier ambitions, might be interested in having him in their ranks.

For Lawrence Stroll, the owner of Aston Martin, Max Verstappen represents the ideal driver to bring the team back to fighting for the world title. But as Clarkson pointed out, the price to pay could be too high, both financially and in terms of reputation.

Jeremy Clarkson’s irony and the comparison with football
In his column, Clarkson joked about the possible scenario where Aston Martin could become the “Manchester City of F1,” a clear reference to the English football team famous for its million-dollar investments. According to Jeremy Clarkson, such a deal with Max Verstappen would risk creating a similar narrative, where successes would be attributed more to the money spent than to talent and strategy.

However, Jeremy Clarkson couldn’t help but admit his admiration for Verstappen’s talent, emphasizing that, despite everything, having a driver of his caliber would still be a powerful asset for any team.

What future for Aston Martin and Max Verstappen?
At the moment, the hypothetical deal seems to have been silenced, but Formula 1 is a world where anything can change quickly. Aston Martin will continue to aim high, with or without Verstappen, and the driver market will remain a focal point.

Clarkson, for his part, will surely continue to irreverently comment on everything that happens in the world of F1, offering us pearls of irony and sharp opinions. Who knows if in the future he’ll be commenting on Verstappen’s actual move to Aston Martin.
