The hostility and battles between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen in the final stages of the 2024 season are coming to an end. With the Dutch driver nearly securing the drivers’ title, it is reasonable to assume that neither of them will approach the Las Vegas GP with a “knife between their teeth,” as a potential clash would harm the British driver more (a zero would impact not only the drivers’ championship but also the constructors’ standings).
Zak Brown fears a repeat of past situations
With three races remaining and the fate of the championship almost decided, German magazine *Auto Motor und Sport* asked if Lando Norris could have done anything differently in an attempt to distract Max Verstappen and force him into a mistake. Or if he should have been more daring when he had the opportunity, as he did in the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin: “Lando drove really well in Texas. Maybe he could have hit Max,” said McLaren CEO Zak Brown without mincing words.
A statement he quickly retracted, criticizing the Dutchman’s driving style: “However, it’s not our style, nor Lando’s, to be aggressive but fair. Max, on the other hand, knows how to push right to the limit of the rules, and he’s incredible at that.”
The championship is almost over, but the McLaren CEO fears Max Verstappen’s attitude could lead to a repeat of incidents seen in the past. Situations that would be better avoided: “He needs to be told where the limits are, and if that doesn’t happen, we’ll see scenes like the one between him and Lewis Hamilton in 2021. In the end, it was Lewis who said enough, and we don’t want to reach that point,” Zak Brown concluded, according to *GPBlog.com*.
