George Russell joined Mercedes just as the team experienced a dip in form in 2022. That season saw technical regulations change with the return of ground effect on the cars. However, the German team started this new chapter of Formula 1 on the wrong foot. Now, the British driver has revealed that the W15 actually has even worse consistency problems.
Despite the team managing to eliminate the porpoising issue, they have not solved the lack of performance. This year, the Brackley team won three of the four races before the summer break, but since then, they have only achieved one podium in the seven races contested. As reported by *racingnews365*, George Russell, speaking about the current situation within the team, stated: “I think in 2022, the porpoising phenomenon was undoubtedly much more unpleasant, but because of the nature of those cars, it was much harder to get close to the limit because you were literally bouncing in every single corner.” – he explained.
The British driver then concluded his remarks by saying: “The problem we have with this car right now is that when you think everything is perfect, you can have a really fantastic lap, but then, suddenly, nothing changes, or at least it seems that way, and the next lap you lose all performance. Without a doubt, this is probably the most inconsistent performance we’ve ever had as a team, ever.” – the Mercedes driver concluded ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
