Yuki Tsunoda looks to bounce back at Zandvoort
After a promising start to the 2025 Formula 1 season, with three points finishes in the opening five races, Yuki Tsunoda has since struggled to maintain consistency. Like many second drivers within the Red Bull family, the Japanese racer has slipped into a negative spiral that has affected his performance. Over the past seven races, his best result has been a modest 12th place, far from the form that had initially raised expectations.
This downturn has inevitably placed his future in Formula 1 under scrutiny. At 25 years old, Tsunoda now faces strong internal competition from within the Red Bull driver academy. Rising star Arvid Lindblad has been impressing in Formula 2, while Isack Hadjar is delivering solid results as a full-time Racing Bulls driver. In this context, the possibility that Tsunoda could reach the end of his journey with the Red Bull organization cannot be dismissed. For this reason, following a much-needed reset during the long summer break, Tsunoda is one of the drivers most in the spotlight as the second half of the championship begins.
Expectations for the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort
The second part of the season kicks off this weekend with the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. For Red Bull, this race is almost a home event thanks to the overwhelming support for Max Verstappen, which naturally extends to the entire team. While this atmosphere could provide Yuki Tsunoda with an extra boost, it also brings significant pressure at a time when his career with the Red Bull organization is at a crossroads.
“I arrive at this weekend rested and ready to go,” explained the Japanese driver. “I had a very good summer break, with the perfect mix of rest, free time with friends, good food, and most importantly, a lot of training. This makes me feel strong both mentally and physically as we begin the second half of the season.”
Tsunoda is aware, however, that Zandvoort will not be an easy challenge. “The Dutch Grand Prix is always a difficult weekend because of the unpredictable weather conditions, and it looks like rain could play a role again this year. Combined with the strong winds and the track’s unique location by the sea, the dunes, and the sandy areas, it can make things very unpredictable. But we have worked hard to prepare for all scenarios and to make sure we can achieve a positive result.”
The Japanese driver also pointed out that this will be his first time racing alongside Max Verstappen in his home Grand Prix. “It will be my first Dutch GP as Max’s teammate, so I think the crowd will be incredibly enthusiastic for Red Bull. It should be an exciting and fun weekend.”
