Formula 1 is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, and the Goodwood Festival, scheduled from July 10 to 13, will once again be the ideal occasion to fire up the engines of the single-seaters that wrote the most significant chapters in the sport’s history, dominating entire seasons alongside some of the greatest champions of all time. Among the most iconic cars is certainly the 1992 Williams FW14B, with which Nigel Mansell won his first and only world title, dominating almost every race that season.
Designed by Adrian Newey and powered by a Renault engine, Nigel Mansell will return to the wheel of his beloved car in front of the Goodwood crowd, just as he did in 2022. But the ‘Lion of England’ won’t be the only one driving the FW14B. Joining in the experience will be Williams Team Principal James Vowles, along with Lia Block and Jamie Chadwick—the latter a Williams ambassador—with both women also competing for the Grove team in the F1 Academy.
They will all drive the car using the same chassis from 1992. For James Vowles, this marks another opportunity to return behind the wheel of a historic car, following his run in the 1982 FW08 last year—the same car Keke Rosberg drove to the world title. It will be a chance not just for the Team Principal, but for the whole team, to showcase one of the cars that made F1 history at what promises to be one of the most packed editions of Goodwood in terms of iconic, race-winning machines.
“It’s fantastic news that Jamie, Lia, and I will be driving the FW14B up the hill at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed,” James Vowles said. “When you walk through the museum at our Grove headquarters, the 14B is the car that stands out the most. It’s a dream come true: an iconic car with such a wide list of achievements. The 14B had very advanced technology for its time and is well known not just for its results, but for how it helped move the team forward. Taking it to Goodwood and having the honor of driving it will be incredible.”
