Franco Colapinto’s race engineer shared what it’s like working with the Argentine driver in F1 and recounted a curious anecdote.
Since his debut in Formula 1, Franco Colapinto has become one of the main figures in the paddock. The Argentine driver continues to make headlines not only for his results but also for his engaging personality, which often brings smiles to journalists and others alike.
The young Williams driver tends to give long interviews due to his eagerness to chat and, in general, to interact with everyone. His demeanor has made him popular with most of the paddock, and due to his strong performances on the track, many are now calling for him to be confirmed in F1 for the next season.
His race engineer, Gaetan Jego, was asked about Franco Colapinto’s character. In an interview with Motorsport Spain, Jego shared how he works with the Argentine driver and revealed a curious anecdote that highlights Franco Colapinto’s personality.
“I think he understands the car well. It’s interesting. He’s quite detailed. Sometimes you need to help him a little to understand what he’s feeling and to express it in words. He’s always pretty detailed and can give us good direction and understand the limits,” said the race engineer – “He loves to talk. You probably all see this during interviews. I’ve encouraged him to try to be more concise in his comments. And it’s funny, sometimes he gets carried away. I think this is the Latin philosophy, the way of living. It’s very different from what you might see in countries like England, where people get straight to the point,” he added.
“I remember the first time he worked on the simulator. After finishing, he came out and stopped; I think I ran out of space to write down his comments. Now he’s better at being concise, although he still needs to work on it to improve further. He’s continuing to practice speaking as little as possible and expressing his thoughts succinctly without being too lengthy. Here, we have very little time for interviews or discussions between ourselves, so it’s essential for him to learn to be as quick as possible,” Gaetan Jego concluded.
