Lance Stroll’s new ‘milestone’
The upcoming Mexican Grand Prix will mark a special moment in the career of Fernando Alonso, who will reach 400 races in Formula 1. The two-time world champion will further extend his own record while driving for Aston Martin. However, his teammate, Lance Stroll, set one of F1’s negative records last weekend in the United States Grand Prix at the Austin circuit: the most races completed without ever recording a fastest lap.
Surpassing Johnny Herbert
During his career, the Canadian has reached the podium on three occasions (two of which were with Racing Point in 2020) and claimed a pole position, but after 162 races, he has never managed to set the fastest lap. This negative record previously belonged to Johnny Herbert, who still managed to secure 10 podium finishes and three race victories.
The Haas drivers’ records
In Formula 1, as in other sports, there are negative records. While Lance Stroll holds the record for the absence of fastest laps, other records are led by two active drivers who are also teammates: Nico Hülkenberg and Kevin Magnussen. After the United States Grand Prix, the Dane has now extended the record for the most races without ever leading a lap, totaling 181.
As for Nico Hülkenberg, he holds three unenviable records. Despite having set two fastest laps and taking pole position at the 2010 Brazilian Grand Prix, the future Sauber driver holds the record for the most points scored without a victory (559) and the most races completed without a win or a podium finish, totaling 222.
