Lando Norris could no longer hold back after being asked again about the Formula 1 title fight with Max Verstappen. In the sprint qualifying session, the McLaren driver finished with the second-fastest time, just 29 thousandths behind teammate Oscar Piastri. In championship terms, Lando Norris will start two positions ahead of Max and will therefore have the chance to gain some points.
However, the papaya representative does not want to hear any more about the standings and wants to focus solely on his driving, with Ferrari looking as the main threat for McLaren in Brazil. The goal is to extract the best possible performance to maximize the weekend’s result.
Lando Norris loses patience
At the end of the sprint qualifying, the British driver was asked if he felt in a favorable position to close the gap to Max Verstappen. The McLaren driver did not appreciate the continued focus on the topic.
“I don’t care, I hate these questions,” he replied irritated. “I just want to race. I don’t care where Max qualifies. As far as I’m concerned, I’ll focus on my job. It’s always the same question. Whether he’s first or last, I’ll do my best.” – Lando Norris pointed out.
Crucial mistakes in qualifying
After making his point about Max Verstappen, the Englishman turned his attention to analyzing his Sprint Qualifying.
“It’s a big improvement from what we had at the start of the day,” explained the McLaren driver. “We were a bit surprised to be so fast, but it was nice. I had a good first lap, but then I made some mistakes on the second push and I stopped. A good team effort. As I said, I didn’t expect it, so it was a pleasant surprise. I just made too many mistakes in my last lap, that’s all. Tomorrow will be a completely different day,” Lando Norris concluded at the end of the sprint qualifying session in Sao Paulo – “We’ve definitely made some good strides. The car is quite good. I’m happy with today, but we’ll see tomorrow in the Sprint.”
