Despite Red Bull no longer holding the dominant position it once had, Sebastian Vettel is still betting on Max Verstappen in the intense race for the 2024 Formula 1 drivers’ title. The four-time F1 world champion, present this weekend at the Interlagos paddock to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Ayrton Senna’s passing, believes that the Dutch driver still has what it takes to secure a fourth consecutive title, which would match Vettel’s own achievement with Red Bull from 2010 to 2013.
Seb Goes All-In on Max
“As much as I’d love for the fight to be truly thrilling to the end, I think Max is now so seasoned, so confident in his driving… you rarely see mistakes from him,” the German began in an interview with Sky Deutschland.
“Even if his car might not be as strong as it was at the beginning of the year, I still see him as the favorite. I think he’s still strong enough to consistently earn enough points. And Lando is no longer in a position to easily win every race.” – the former Red Bull and Ferrari driver pointed out.
“So, I’d say the role of favorite clearly belongs to Max. But of course, as an independent spectator, I hope the race remains fiercely competitive. It’s a title fight that’s certainly thrilling but also exhausting. This is evident with Norris, who, when asked yet again about Verstappen after the sprint qualifying, responded quite irritably: “I don’t care, I hate these questions. I just want to race. I don’t care where Max qualifies. As far as I’m concerned, I’ll focus on my work. It’s always the same question. Whether he’s first or last, I’ll do my best.” – Sebastian Vettel concluded.
