Sergio Perez’s F1 future: a key detail emerges that puts Red Bull in check. The financial cost for Red Bull to to part ways with Sergio Perez would be significant.

Sergio Perez, 2024 F1

This time, Red Bull, or rather Christian Horner, may have put himself in check. Beyond the huge number of sponsors that ensure Sergio Perez’s security for 2025 despite poor results, a detail in the “new” contract signed by the Mexican in the summer has recently come to light, which could change everything.

80 million good reasons not to change
According to F1-Insider, the team principal of the Milton Keynes-based squad has removed the performance clause that was present in the old agreement signed at the beginning of June.

This means that, if Red Bull truly wanted to part ways with the Guadalajara native at the end of the season, the financial cost would be significant.

In addition to the 40 million euros at stake between the first and third positions in the Constructors’ Championship, the Mexican’s entourage, according to the German outlet, would even demand a 20 million euros severance package.

As if that weren’t enough, if Christian Horner were to pursue Franco Colapinto seriously, Red Bull would be forced to pay another 20 million euros to lure the Argentine talent away from Williams.

It is therefore clear that, despite Red Bull relying solely on Max Verstappen for months and Helmut Marko’s strong backing of Liam Lawson, the leadership of the Anglo-Austrian team is not willing to open the wallet lightly.

In any case, a final decision, as confirmed by Marko, will be made only after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
