Williams’ new partner
The Las Vegas Grand Prix will be the third and final U.S. event of this season, following the races in Miami and Austin. Williams is ready to make its appearance under the artificial lights of the gambling capital with a special new partner: ahead of the race weekend, the historic Grove team announced a multi-year agreement with Zoox, an autonomous ride-hailing company and independent subsidiary of Amazon.
Details of the agreement
The California-based company, founded ten years ago, is making strides in the world of technology and personal transportation with the development of driverless robotaxis. In addition to the Zoox logo, which will appear on the Williams cars of Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto, the robotaxis will also be present in the team’s fan zone and at the New York-New York Hotel. Starting in 2025, Zoox will operate in Miami, Austin, and Las Vegas, cities where it will welcome its first passengers aboard its robotaxis.
Innovation and research
Cutting-edge technology is the common thread that links Zoox and Williams, as highlighted by Team Principal James Vowles: “Williams Racing is excited to bring the future of mobility to Formula 1 and is pleased to welcome Zoox as the first autonomous vehicle company to partner with the sport. At first glance, this may seem like an unlikely partnership—the F1 pits the best drivers in the world against each other, while Zoox is a pioneer of driverless travel—but both Williams and Zoox are at the forefront of automotive technology and share the core values of how we do business. We look forward to helping Zoox reach a new audience, starting in Las Vegas at the end of this month.”
These statements complement those from Carly Wyatt, head of communications and marketing at Zoox: “The collaboration with Williams Racing reflects our shared values in the pursuit of performance and precision, and will allow Zoox to reach a new audience of Williams and F1 fans who embrace innovation and engineering excellence. This unique collaboration between a Formula 1 team and a robotaxi company presents an opportunity to provide behind-the-scenes insights into how these two sectors are using similar cutting-edge technologies, including the latest advances in AI, to reshape the future of both motorsport and mobility.”
