In 2026, the Formula 1 grid will once again feature 11 teams and 22 drivers, something not seen since 2016. Cadillac will debut as a constructor, and in a market dominated by long contracts and many drivers competing for few seats, the American team is particularly appealing regardless of its competitive level.

The team, with super-consultant Mario Andretti at the helm, is searching for two drivers for next season. As known, Andretti’s plan is to field Colton Herta (who, however, still lacks the Super Licence) and an experienced driver (a role for which Sergio Perez is the frontrunner). But since plans in F1 can fall apart easily, there’s a whole host of drivers waiting for a call from Andretti. Among them is certainly Mick Schumacher, still eager to return to the grid after three years away. According to some sources, he spoke with Cadillac management in Miami.

Mick Schumacher, currently driving in Alpine’s WEC program, has been endorsed by Sebastian Vettel, his teammate in the recent Race of Champions events. For the four-time world champion, the #47 would have no trouble keeping pace in today’s Formula 1: “I wish him the best. We’re in touch, and I’m aware of how things went for him in F1. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he gets another chance, because I really believe he can absolutely keep up with the others,” he told sport.de.

“For him, the Formula 1 dream was difficult to realize at Haas — he didn’t feel comfortable there,” Sebastian Vettel continued. “Mick is now in a completely different phase and is much more mature. And I think he’s doing a great job with Alpine in the World Endurance Championship. It would be nice if he could get a second opportunity with Cadillac.”
