No retirement for Sergio Perez: on the eve of the Abu Dhabi GP, he confirms his intention to remain with Red Bull for another season.
Sergio Perez is still confident: no retirement, staying in F1 with Red Bull for another season. On the eve of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Mexican responds to criticism and reaffirms his desire to continue in the sport. No moment of reckoning, then, if that’s what Christian Horner was hoping for. Perez’s statements put Milton Keynes in a difficult position.
The ongoing Austrian saga about Max Verstappen’s next teammate has reached yet another chapter. Checo Perez was supposed to leave after the summer; everything seemed set for Daniel Ricciardo’s promotion. But then the surprise: it was the Australian who left after Singapore. Now, Perez’s departure is once again being considered a certainty, but he himself has dashed the hopes of Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda.
Despite a long string of poor performances, the Mexican remains confident in Red Bull’s support. Without it, he emphasizes, he wouldn’t have secured a contract renewal at the start of the season. He just wants to focus on the current weekend, finish the year with a strong performance, and prepare for 2025. There’s no intention of not honoring his contract.
Perez, No Farewell: “I’ve Already Said I’m Staying Through 2025”
Speaking to journalists in Abu Dhabi, including those from *F1inGenerale*, Sergio Perez shared his perspective: “For me, it’s important to focus on the weekend. I want to give my best for the team and try to show everyone that we can make it happen. I think that’s the main goal for the weekend. Nothing has changed compared to what I’ve been saying all year.”
“I have a contract for next year, and I’ll be driving for Red Bull next year. I think it’s important to stay united [as a team]. This season hasn’t been the best, but at the end of the day, there’s a reason they renewed my contract—they know I can still deliver. Of course, I take responsibility, but I don’t think it all comes down to one person.”
