Interlagos is here
While waiting for the third and final U.S. race of the season when Formula 1 heads to Las Vegas in mid-November, the circus focuses this weekend on its third consecutive race in the Americas. After Austin and Mexico City, it’s now time for Brazil, on the São Paulo track of Interlagos.
Second-to-last Sprint weekend
This is a very special event for all teams, both due to its proximity to the end of the championship and the unique nature of the weekend, which is the second-to-last Sprint weekend on the calendar. It’s an extra opportunity Alpine is eager to seize to gain points on Williams and target 8th place in the Constructors’ standings, currently held by the Grove team but with only a 3-point advantage over the French team.
Pierre Gasly aims for a repeat
This gap slightly narrowed thanks to Pierre Gasly’s 10th place in the last race in Mexico, following four races without points finishes: “It’s fantastic to return to Interlagos for this weekend’s São Paulo Grand Prix,” said the former Red Bull driver. “The circuit is iconic and holds special memories for me, as it was the site of my first podium in 2019. The circuit is one of the shortest of the year and has a nice flow that makes it really fun to drive. After two top-ten finishes in qualifying and a point last time out, I’m optimistic for another competitive weekend. It’s also the second Sprint event in the triple-header, which makes it an intense challenge for everyone in Formula 1. I want to thank all the team members for their hard work over the past two races and this weekend.” – he pointed out ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend.
Esteban Ocon seeks first points since Spa
Esteban Ocon is also eager to return to the points, as he approaches his final stretch with Alpine before his expected move to Haas in 2025. The Frenchman hasn’t achieved a top-10 finish since the Belgian GP: “I can’t wait to go to Brazil this week,” he added. “The track is always a fun challenge to drive, and the atmosphere is incredible. Just like in Mexico City, the São Paulo fans always bring the noise that inspires us drivers. This is the final event of three consecutive races, which is very demanding for the whole team, so I’m grateful to everyone who continues to push. São Paulo is another Sprint weekend, meaning there’s a double chance for points. We’ll try to make the most of the sessions to prepare as best we can for both races and hope to wrap up this series of races on a positive note.” – the French driver concluded.
