2025: a season to forget
The 2023 and 2024 seasons had ended with Alpine in 6th place in the Constructors’ Championship, with both drivers even achieving podium finishes. Such results, ahead of the last world championship, never suggested the steep decline in performance that the team experienced in 2025, which has become one of the worst seasons in Alpine’s history.
The final race of the 2025 championship, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, summed up the season: Pierre Gasly finished 19th, while teammate Franco Colapinto crossed the line in 20th and last. Throughout the season, Gasly was the only driver to consistently bring the team into the points, managing it on just six occasions. “It wasn’t a great race to finish the season, and there’s not much to say except that we did our best, but our pace wasn’t enough to really compete,” Gasly said. “Looking back on the year as a whole, as a team, we can still learn a lot from this season. I was really impressed by how the team handled a difficult year in which we weren’t competitive. Despite the challenges, everyone gave their maximum effort and demonstrated an exceptional mindset that we can carry forward into next year. So, thanks to everyone on track, at Enstone, and at Viry for all their efforts this year. We believe strongly in the 2026 project, and I can’t wait to start from scratch and give everyone a fresh beginning. Finally, congratulations to Lando Norris for winning the title. It was a tight battle with Verstappen and Piastri, and anyone could have won. That it was decided by just two points is fantastic for Formula 1, so congratulations to all three. Lando did it, and it’s a big moment for him. Hopefully, one day, we’ll be in that position, and we’ll continue working hard to get there.”
No points for Colapinto
Alpine now looks ahead to 2026 with a new, ambitious project: entering Formula 1 not with Renault engines but with Mercedes power units. Consequently, Abu Dhabi marked the end of a historic chapter, with Franco Colapinto remaining in the team for the upcoming season. The Argentine, who was called up at Imola to replace Jack Doohan, was the only driver alongside the Australian not to score a single point in this championship. “It was a long and tough race, and in the end, we lacked the pace all weekend. It’s been a difficult period of races, and we didn’t get the results we expected. It was a challenging end to the season, but everyone kept pushing until the very end. It’s a year we’d like to leave behind, but from which we can learn and come back stronger. Thanks to the entire team for their commitment this year under difficult circumstances. There are still a few weeks to push in the factory and finish before the holidays. After that, it will be time to rest and restart for what will be an important year for me and the team. Finally, congratulations to Norris. He had a fantastic year and is a deserving champion.” – he concluded at the end of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
