After Red Bull, it seems that Alpine has also entered the race for Franco Colapinto, a situation that could lead to new and unexpected developments in the driver market.
Since his F1 debut in Monza, the Williams talent has attracted a lot of attention. His performances on the track and his attitude in the paddock have not gone unnoticed, and more than one person has asked the Grove team for information about him.
Red Bull in the front row
Among Franco Colapinto’s first supporters is certainly Red Bull. Both Helmut Marko and Christian Horner have spoken highly of the 2003-born driver, and it is said that a significant offer has already been made to Williams.
Perez’s poor performances are pushing the Milton Keynes team to look around, even beyond their own driver academy. Franco Colapinto is seen not only as a potential VCARB driver but also as a possible teammate for Max Verstappen. In this scenario, Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda would remain in the Faenza team.
However, Williams does not seem willing to easily part with their talent. This is why there was even talk of a possible switch of Carlos Sainz to Red Bull, with Franco Colapinto staying at Grove.
Alpine enters the race for Franco Colapinto
In recent hours, news has spread of Alpine’s interest in Franco Colapinto. Flavio Briatore is said to have been impressed by the Argentine driver and is ready to bring him to Enstone.
On paper, the French team has already confirmed its lineup for next year. Pierre Gasly has signed a multi-year extension, and alongside him will be, at least for now, rookie Jack Doohan, the team’s current third driver.
However, according to recent rumors, Flavio Briatore is not entirely convinced by the young Australian. As a result, he has expressed interest to Williams about Colapinto. In this case, Doohan’s contract could be nullified, and the son of a former F1 driver might miss his chance in Formula 1 for good.
At the moment, there are no official comments from the parties involved. However, the driver market could soon enter, once again, a hot phase.
