Racing Bulls’ ‘Step Forward’
On an unusual Sunday for an F1 weekend, with both qualifying and the race held on the same day due to severe weather conditions, Racing Bulls can leave São Paulo with high spirits about both drivers’ performances, looking ahead to the next race in Las Vegas. The team’s overall performance could have allowed them to catch up with or surpass Haas in the Constructors’ standings, but that goal slipped away due to a surprising double podium by Alpine. With this result, Alpine leaped past both Racing Bulls and the American team, moving from ninth to sixth in the championship.
Yuki Tsunoda’s Weekend
With three races left, the gap between these three teams for sixth place remains tight. The French team has a three-point lead over Haas and a five-point lead over Racing Bulls, which proved to be one of the strongest teams in the Brazilian downpour last weekend. Notably impressive was Yuki Tsunoda’s qualifying performance, placing him 3rd behind Norris and Russell. In the race, especially after the disruptions following the red flag for Colapinto’s accident, the Japanese driver couldn’t hold on to a podium spot, finishing in 7th place.
Return to the Top 10
There are still positives for the Japanese driver beyond the results at Interlagos: for the first time since the Hungarian Grand Prix, Yuki Tsunoda returned to the top 10, matching his best finish of the season, previously achieved in Australia and Miami. His points haul has helped him reach 11th place in the Drivers’ standings, three points behind Nico Hülkenberg, who was disqualified in Brazil after reentering the track with assistance from the marshals.
Liam Lawson Scores Points Again
Additionally, Yuki Tsunoda finished ahead of Sergio Perez, who once again was outside the points. Throughout this season, there have been rumors of a potential future for Yuki Tsunoda at Milton Keynes in place of the Mexican, as well as for Liam Lawson, who also finished in the top 10 in Brazil. Since his return to F1 in Austin, where he finished 9th, the New Zealander repeated this result at Interlagos, redeeming himself after his controversial collision with Sergio Perez in Mexico. Regardless of any driver market developments, Racing Bulls can celebrate its first double points finish of the season.
