Bono ‘guides’ Lewis
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix marked Lewis Hamilton’s last race as a Mercedes driver. The German manufacturer has always supported the British driver, as even during his time at McLaren, Hamilton raced with a Mercedes-powered car. At Yas Marina, the final chapter of a partnership unprecedented in F1 history in terms of victories was celebrated.
The celebrations were so grand that colleagues couldn’t help but note how excessive it all seemed. “He’s just changing teams; it’s not his farewell to F1,” joked race winner Lando Norris.
In 2025, Lewis Hamilton will drive for Ferrari alongside Charles Leclerc. Nevertheless, during the cooldown lap after the Abu Dhabi GP, Mercedes treated Lewis Hamilton to a heartfelt surprise. By following a series of steering wheel commands under the guidance of his trusted race engineer ‘Bono’ (Peter Bonnington), Lewis Hamilton uncovered a celebratory poster of his Mercedes career. “Forever we rise,” a tribute to one of the seven-time champion’s favorite mottos (“Still I rise”). Below is the video.
