Andrea Kimi Antonelli reflects on a challenging weekend
Qualifying for the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix has come to an end, with Andrea Kimi Antonelli securing third place on the grid behind Mercedes teammate George Russell and Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton.
After stepping out of his car, the young Italian spoke to the media and reflected on what has been a challenging weekend so far at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
“It’s been a bit of a difficult weekend for me up to now,” Andrea Kimi Antonelli said. “We haven’t had a great feeling with the car, but yesterday our race pace was strong, so that is definitely a positive aspect. Today I was missing something, but I’m still looking ahead to tomorrow’s race with confidence.”
Focus shifts to the Spanish Grand Prix
Despite securing a place on the second row, Andrea Kimi Antonelli believes there is still room for improvement and is already concentrating on the opportunities that Sunday’s race could offer.
Looking ahead to the Grand Prix and the possibility of gaining positions at the start, the Mercedes driver highlighted the importance of the long run to Turn 1 and the role that slipstreaming could play: “We will definitely try to make a strong start and take maximum advantage of the slipstream, which could be a very important factor, especially considering our setup choices,” Andrea Kimi Antonelli explained.
“There is still a lot of work to do in preparation for tomorrow’s race, but we’ll do everything we can to be ready.”
With strong race pace already demonstrated during Friday’s long runs, Andrea Kimi Antonelli will be aiming to turn his promising starting position into another significant result as he continues his impressive rookie Formula 1 campaign.
