This weekend, the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team will take to the streets of Monaco with a special livery created to celebrate McLaren Racing’s 1,000th Formula 1 Grand Prix.
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri’s MCL40 cars will feature a striking metallic papaya colour scheme enhanced by anthracite details. The design also includes numerous references to the British team’s illustrious history, with hidden elements celebrating major milestones ranging from its first Formula 1 race to Grand Prix victories, World Championship titles, the prestigious Triple Crown, and even McLaren’s record-breaking pit stop achievements.
Both drivers will also wear specially designed race suits that mirror the visual identity of the commemorative livery, creating a unified look for the historic occasion.
As explained in the team’s official press release, the livery embodies McLaren’s philosophy of never giving up. As the team reaches the landmark of 1,000 Formula 1 Grands Prix, the design highlights the stories, determination, and hard work that have shaped its journey. It celebrates not only McLaren’s successes but also the challenges the team has overcome throughout its history, emerging stronger each time.
The special anniversary livery will remain on the MCL40 for both the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix and the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix.
A special celebration in Monaco
On Thursday, June 4, McLaren will continue its 1,000th Grand Prix celebrations with a unique moment on the Monaco Grand Prix starting grid. The team’s very first Formula 1 car, the M2B, owned by Richard Mille, will be displayed alongside the MCL40, the car that carried McLaren to its 1,000th Grand Prix milestone.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown, Team Principal Andrea Stella, and drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will be joined by Grand Prix winners from throughout the team’s history. All living McLaren Grand Prix winners have been invited to take part in the celebration, alongside Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali.
