Lando Norris’ championship campaign has started in the best possible way. The McLaren driver, despite facing more challenges than expected, managed to secure his first win of the 2025 season in the opening race in Melbourne. Formula 1 has picked up right where it left off last December, with the British duo leading the pack. For the first time in his career, Norris is also at the top of the drivers’ standings. Meanwhile, Oscar Piastri is looking for redemption after receiving a team order in his home race in Australia, which prevented him from attacking his teammate. He then had an off-track excursion—just like Lando Norris—but came off worse, finishing only ninth.
“It’s fantastic to head into the second race of the season as a winner,” said Lando Norris. “Now we have Shanghai, the first Sprint weekend of the year. We started the championship in the best way, but we need to keep working and learning to achieve consistent results. The season is very long, and I’m excited to see what we can do. Last year, the support from the fans in China was incredible, so I can’t wait to race in front of them again. Let’s go!”
“I’m really looking forward to getting back on track this weekend,” said Oscar Piastri. “Melbourne was a very encouraging week, and the result was close to being special for me. The speed was really promising, and that gives me great confidence for the future. It’s also a Sprint weekend, which means more opportunities to score points. I’m ready to attack and give it my all!” – the Australian driver concluded ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix, which is set to take place over 56 laps of the 5.451-kilometre Shanghai International Circuit next Sunday.
