Piastri vs Norris: the battle resumes at Zandvoort
The summer break has ended and engines finally roar back to life with the Dutch Grand Prix, effectively marking the start of the final phase of the season. It is not just the season that restarts but also the fierce battle between McLaren’s two drivers for the drivers’ world championship, with only nine points separating Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.
The words of Norris and Piastri
Zandvoort is a highly technical circuit, featuring fast corners and often described by drivers as “old style.” It represents another prime opportunity for McLaren to showcase their competitive edge. Last year, McLaren stood out as the car to beat on this track, and all the conditions are in place to replicate that performance.
Regarding the upcoming weekend, the McLaren drivers shared their thoughts:
Lando Norris: “I’m excited to get back to racing after a two-week break. I feel rested and ready to tackle the second half of the season with positive results in mind. The atmosphere at the Dutch Grand Prix is always fantastic. Last year here was very special, so I’m thrilled to be returning. We are competitive and ready to pick up where we left off, so I’m confident about fighting for top positions again.”
Oscar Piastri: “I feel full of energy and refreshed after a short break and high-quality training in preparation for the remaining ten races. I’m ready for the second half of the season and eager to get back on track and secure more wins. The first half of the season has been extremely positive. The team has done an excellent job with the car, and it’s fantastic to be leading the Drivers’ Championship. I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead, starting with Zandvoort.”
Team principal Andrea Stella on the weekend and second-half goals
“After two weeks of summer break, we return for the final European double-header of the season. It’s fantastic to be back at Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix. The circuit is fast and can present technical challenges due to its nature, and the competition at the front of the grid will remain intense. We are looking forward to seeing all our fans, who always create a lively atmosphere. We are entering a very intense part of the season, with the last ten races ahead. Our focus remains on ourselves, continuing to work hard and deliver strong performances,” Andrea Stella explained.
