Jacques Villeneuve spoke about the battle at the top between McLaren and Red Bull, with Max Verstappen and Lando Norris ready to fight until the very end for the 2024 Formula 1 world championship title.
The season’s finale will be anything but ordinary. The showdown between Lando Norris’ McLaren and Max Verstappen‘s Red Bull has all the makings of a championship that will be decided at the last race. The Dutchman holds a 52-point lead over the Briton, while the team led by Andrea Stella tops the constructors’ standings with a 41-point advantage over Christian Horner’s squad.
The three-week break between Singapore and Austin could have a significant impact on the dynamics on track during the season’s final races. Several teams, including Ferrari and Red Bull, will bring some updates to the track, and this could shake things up.
Jacques Villeneuve warns Lando Norris
Jacques Villeneuve also discussed the title battle in a recent interview. “Norris needs to be slightly more competitive, but it will still be an exciting season until the end,” said the former world champion. “I think they will be very close in the standings. Max has changed his approach, as he no longer focuses on winning races but rather on maximizing points.”
“In this, he is very mature. Winning a championship is more important than winning many races,” Jacques Villeneuve added. “He knows McLaren isn’t doing everything it should, and this will work in his favor. If Norris doesn’t win the title, it will be McLaren’s fault, not his. They’ve made too many mistakes, and it’s too late now.” – he pointed out.
After the Italian Grand Prix at the Monza circuit, Jacques Villeneuve had already spoken about the team’s handling of team orders within Andrea Stella‘s squad. “Already in Hungary, they showed some difficulty by not prioritizing Lando Norris. At Monza, they should have secured a one-two finish, but instead, they lost crucial points for the team.”
