There was a lot of disappointment at Ferrari at the 4.94-kilometre Marina Bay Street Circuit . Without that disastrous qualifying session, the SF-24 single-seater would have had the podium well within reach during the Marina Bay weekend. The problems on Saturday, however, forced Ferrari to settle for far less in Singapore, despite Charles Leclerc finishing just behind George Russell in the final laps.
The Monegasque driver crossed the finish line in fifth place, just over a second behind the Brit with number 63. “We had a good race, too bad about qualifying. I was hoping for a Safety Car, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen,” a disappointed Charles Leclerc said at the end of the Singapore Grand Prix.
James Allison revisits the Singapore battle
But how did George Russell manage to keep Charles Leclerc behind in the final part of the Singapore Grand Prix? James Allison discussed it, analyzing the battle between the two. “I think we should congratulate George for how he preserved the tires in the final part of the race,” said Mercedes’ technical director.
“I also believe that Charles Leclerc pushed really hard on the tires in the last few laps. He recorded several fast laps, which allowed him to close the gap to George Russell and attack him at the end,” James Allison added – “Pushing so hard, however, left him with less tire life than he needed in the final meters. George drove very cleanly, and that allowed him to stay ahead.” – the Mercedes’ technical director concluded.
