Just days before the Las Vegas GP, Max Verstappen made his debut in a Hypercar. The Dutchman drove the Acura ARX-06 GTP, the car that won the 2023 24 Hours of Daytona.
Earlier this year, the American division of Honda Performance Development merged with the larger Honda Racing Corporation US, creating a unified motorsport entity. To celebrate, the Japanese brand organized an event involving the entire Red Bull family.
Max Verstappen’s Hypercar debut
The three-time world champion has never hidden his passion for GT racing. He often competes in virtual races and has repeatedly expressed his desire to race in this category in the future.
Max Verstappen’s debut in the Acura Hypercar was the highlight of Honda’s event. After a brief chat with Scott Dixon, Max Verstappen took to the track in the ARX-06 GTP, the car that dominated the 2023 24 Hours of Daytona, claiming both first and second place.
Max Verstappen’s F1 contract expires in 2028, and the Dutchman has made it clear that he doesn’t intend to remain in the sport as long as Lewis Hamilton or Fernando Alonso. His goal is to compete in other categories, and this test drive in Las Vegas may have given him a taste of what lies ahead.
Test drives for Sergio Perez, Liam Lawson, and Yuki Tsunoda
As noted earlier, the Honda event didn’t feature just Verstappen but the entire Red Bull family.
Sergio Perez tested the CR-V “Beast,” a custom crossover powered by an IndyCar engine. Liam Lawson drove the Acura Integra DE5, a production car used by HRC US at Pikes Peak.
Finally, Yuki Tsunoda made his debut in an IndyCar chassis, specifically the car Alex Palou used last season to win the championship.
