Lando Norris is not yet ready to become F1 world champion. Martin Brundle, journalist for Sky Sports, shared his views on the F1 title fight between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen. According to Martin Brundle, the Dutchman has something extra—the killer instinct of a champion—which ultimately made the difference in the duel between the two drivers.
“Norris needs to improve from his current level,” said Martin Brundle. “He has achieved some fantastic victories, like at Zandvoort and Singapore. In those races, he took off and ran away, a bit like Max does when he dominates Grands Prix. But Norris lacks the experience to compete for the world title. Winning it requires facing different challenges and rules, which I think he’ll learn from this year’s experience.” – the British journalist explained.
The journalist and former driver then specified what else the McLaren driver might be missing: “Sometimes you get the impression that Norris lacked the killer instinct. Verstappen knows how to be ruthless when engaged in a duel. Moreover, when the Dutchman won seven of the first ten races, he put himself in a comfortable position for the championship. It became very difficult for anyone to catch him. Lando Norris would have needed to close the points gap with him every weekend, hoping that some Mercedes, Ferrari, or Oscar Piastri would get in between them.”
According to Martin Brundle, the current situation favors Max Verstappen, who should have secured his fourth Formula 1 world title: “To overturn the situation now, very strange things would need to happen in the last three races of the season.” – he pointed out at the end of the Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo.
Barring a major surprise, Lando Norris may have definitively lost his chance to fight for the drivers’ title due to a 62-point gap from his rival. However, the constructors’ title is still in play, with the battle against Ferrari and Red Bull not yet over.
