Franz Tost destroys Liam Lawson: “He’ll never be faster than Yuki Tsunoda, not even in 100 years”. Franz Tost, the former team principal of AlphaTauri, commented on the driver shuffle between Red Bull and Racing Bulls.

Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda, 2024 F1

Franz Tost, the former team principal of AlphaTauri, commented on the driver shuffle between Red Bull and Racing Bulls which saw Yuki Tsunoda being promoted at the expense of Liam Lawson.

Franz Tost’s comments ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix weekend.
The Austrian, who had the opportunity to work with both drivers in 2023, told ORF: “Why demote Liam before letting him race on a track he knows? Because that [having experience on a track, ed.] is one thing, but being fast is another.”

“The decision to put Yuki in the car now was absolutely the right one, because Liam is simply too slow. They could have given Lawson 100 years — he still wouldn’t be as fast as Yuki, who is also more experienced, so what’s the problem? It’s a very simple decision.” – he pointed out.

“I would have gone with Yuki from the beginning, I said it clearly last autumn. Yuki has incredible natural speed, and I’ve been saying that for years.” – he added – “If [Tsunoda] manages to turn his speed into consistent results, putting in good performances during races and keeping his emotions in check, it will be a very good season both for Red Bull and for him,” Franz Tost concluded.

And what about you? Do you agree or disagree with the former AlphaTauri team principal? Let us know in the comments.
