Liam Lawson explains why young drivers adapt quickly to today’s F1 cars. Liam Lawson on why it’s easier for young drivers to adapt to the cars and quickly perform well.

Franco Colapinto, Williams 2024 F1

The current Racing Bulls driver, Liam Lawson, mentioned that with the current team structures in F1 and the use of simulators, it’s easier for young drivers to adapt to the cars and quickly perform well.

Liam Lawson: “The simulator is the key tool…”

“I think we can’t really test much. I know that many years ago you could basically test whenever you wanted; you had test cars and things like that,” he said to RacingNews365.

“Although that would be very, very nice. Obviously, that’s not how the sport works right now. And that’s why simulator driving and the work we do behind the scenes with data and preparation for an event are fundamental, even if it’s mostly simulator work, I’d say.”

Since real-life testing isn’t possible as it used to be, simulators have become the primary tools for training and getting accustomed to the track. It was through this that Lawson had the opportunity to train and develop gradually.

“Each team has its own simulator that it develops and tries to work with. And it’s fundamentally about making it as realistic as possible.” – he concluded.
