While the lineup in 2024 saw no changes at the start of the season, the same cannot be said for next year. In the 2025 F1 season, we will indeed see several rookies, which Norris considers an increased risk to competitive racing.
To be precise, there are only three true debutants: Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Jack Doohan, and Gabriel Bortoleto. The other two, Oliver Bearman and Liam Lawson, have already completed full weekends in F1 cars.
The situation with Franco Colapinto remains uncertain. The young Williams driver, despite performing well, has not yet secured a seat for 2025. Some rumors link him to Red Bull or suggest he could replace Liam Lawson if the New Zealander is promoted to the main team. Sergio Perez’s future could certainly influence how things play out.
Commenting on this influx of young drivers, Lando Norris expressed some hesitation. “This season already, we’ve seen many young, talented drivers emerging. Even though they’re well-prepared, there’s still a risk; that’s for sure.”
“Admitting this makes me feel older. I’m sure that, like Liam, Oscar, and Franco, we’ll see many drivers in the coming years who’ll come in and do well right from the start. But unfortunately, F1 isn’t just about one or two weekends.”
“We’re talking about around 24 GPs per year,” Lando Norris continued in his interview with RacingNews365. “It’s about a whole season, and that’s the biggest challenge. Coming in and finding speed quickly in a car is the easy part. The hard part is not crashing every weekend, which would compromise development, helping the team, being a leader, and not only focusing on the present but also looking ahead. Knowing when to make sacrifices to set yourself up for future seasons. There’s a range of things that make a driver complete.” – the British driver concluded.
