Liam Lawson’s new-old home
The Japanese Grand Prix scheduled for Sunday will be particularly special for the entire Red Bull family: the ‘first team’ will honor Honda with a special livery and will see the debut of their new driver, Yuki Tsunoda, on home soil. On the Racing Bulls side, however, Liam Lawson returns, tail between his legs. The New Zealander, dropped by Horner and Marko after just two races, will have the opportunity to prove his worth behind the wheel of a car likely easier to drive than the one in Milton Keynes.
“I can’t wait to race in Japan this weekend. Suzuka is one of my favorite tracks on the calendar,” explained Lawson, who has raced in Super Formula at this track. “It’s fun to drive, and it’s a high-speed track, which makes it very enjoyable with a Formula 1 car. This weekend represents a great opportunity for me, as I return to Racing Bulls, and I’m excited to work with this team again. As always, I will give my best.”
Isack Hadjar aiming for points
Alongside him, Liam Lawson will have Frenchman Isack Hadjar, who aims to continue his growth: “I’m really excited to be in Japan, probably my favorite country to visit on the calendar,” said the rookie. “I’ve already driven at Suzuka, and even though it’s been a while, it’s still my favorite track along with Monaco. I think driving here for the first time with a Formula 1 car will feel like insane speed. I’m eager to see what we can achieve as a team because in the first two race weekends, we seemed to have a lot of pace, so the plan is to fight for points.” – the former Red Bull driver concluded ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix weekend.
