With his amazing victory in the Brazilian Grand Prix at the 4.309-kilometre Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace in Brazil, Max Verstappen significantly increased his championship lead over Lando Norris. The title chase is now tougher for the McLaren driver, as his Red Bull rival could potentially clinch his fourth Formula 1 world championship in Las Vegas.
The British driver, meanwhile, only managed to finish sixth at Interlagos. “It was a weekend of ups and downs. I couldn’t have done much more,” Norris said in post-race interviews.
McLaren’s #4 driver was modest in his statements, even when he admitted which driver truly deserved to win the Brazilian GP. And no, he wasn’t talking about Max Verstappen.
“I’m sure George [Russell] probably feels like he won the race today. He deserved it more than anyone else. Realistically, I would have finished third.” The Mercedes driver had a strong start, overtaking Norris and taking the lead right at Turn 1.
George Russell led for much of the first half of the race, while the McLaren driver stayed behind, waiting for an opportune moment to reclaim the position—which never came.
“So it’s tough. Max probably would have gotten there anyway and beaten us,” Norris later admitted. “For us, it was just an unlucky race. Nothing more. I made a couple of mistakes, which I take responsibility for, and in the end, those cost me a few positions,” he concluded.
Max Verstappen won the Brazilian Grand Prix ahead of Alpine drivers Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, who took second and third on the podium, respectively.
