Following the Brazilian Grand Prix, which was held last weekend at the Interlagos circuit, Lewis Hamilton appeared noticeably frustrated with his Mercedes’ performance. Some of his statements surprised fans and sounded like hints at an early departure.
Among the comments that raised eyebrows, a few stood out. It was certainly a rough weekend for the British driver, with only a single point gained between the Sprint Race and the main race on Sunday. The frustration has become increasingly evident, with Hamilton frequently expressing dissatisfaction over team radio about the car’s handling.
Is Lewis Hamilton leaving Mercedes early?
His ongoing complaints and recent comments alarmed fans. One statement, in particular, was striking: “It was a disastrous weekend, guys. The worst car ever. Thanks for still trying and for the great work by everyone at the pit stop. If this is the last time I perform, it’s a shame it wasn’t fantastic, but I’m still very grateful.” – the future Ferrari driver explained at the end of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Mentioning a “last time” certainly has an air of goodbye. And that’s not all. Lewis Hamilton also admitted he’d be quite happy to take a break rather than continue driving the Mercedes, which is giving him plenty of trouble on track.
Mercedes, although not releasing any official statements, has indicated that they are not concerned about Lewis Hamilton’s recent comments. In fact, they suggested that the seven-time Formula 1 world champion will continue to work with the Brackley team for the final three races of the 2024 Formula 1 season.
So, in the end, it seems to be a false alarm. Lewis Hamilton will see through his long partnership with the team that helped him achieve six of his world titles — barring any last-minute surprises.
