From First Victory to Title Fight
The 2024 season was not only the first to crown McLaren as Constructors’ World Champion after 26 years but also one that gave Lando Norris his first major career milestones. The British driver, in addition to claiming his maiden victory in Miami, fought with Max Verstappen for the world title up until the Las Vegas GP, where the arithmetic ended a long battle with the four-time consecutive world champion.
More Confidence in Himself
Lando Norris didn’t achieve his dream of winning the world title, but the 24 race weekends this year brought significant benefits to the 25-year-old, both technically and, even more so, psychologically. As he admitted in an interview published on F1’s official website, the runner-up and winner of four races this season has made strides both on and off the track, leading him to have greater confidence in himself and be fully motivated for the next championship.
“I definitely had to review many things to try to correct and improve,” explained McLaren’s #4. “However, I think what I learned and gained the most this year was self-confidence. It seems very simple, but I’ve always been the opposite type of person, always thinking I needed to convince myself before I started believing in something. This year, I made some mistakes and didn’t fight enough with Max, but it was a good effort, and the main thing I learned is that I have what it takes to do it. I know I made mistakes, I know what I’m capable of, and I know that if I can improve on those things, it’s definitely possible. So I’m excited.
As much as I want this season to end and to go on vacation, I can’t wait for next year.”
