At Max Verstappen’s Court
Liam Lawson will partner with Max Verstappen in the 2025 season, driving for Red Bull and competing in his first full Formula 1 season as a teammate to the four-time reigning world champion. How this new pairing will work is a major point of interest for fans, especially considering how challenging it has been for Max Verstappen’s recent teammates— Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon, and Sergio Perez—to come close to the Dutchman’s performance.
However, Liam Lawson hopes to challenge Max Verstappen and perhaps revive an internal rivalry at Red Bull, similar to the one he grew up following. In an interview with *The Times* following his announcement as Milton Keynes’ new driver, the New Zealander shared that his introduction to Formula 1 came during the era of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, who vied for the top spot within the team.
The Sebastian Vettel – Mark Webber Rivalry
“The first Formula 1 video game I had was F1 2010. I was eight years old. That year, Sebastian Vettel won his first championship,” Liam Lawson recounted. “But I always played as Mark Webber to battle with Sebastian Vettel, and I always drove the Red Bull. When I became a junior and came here back then, I felt like I was already an F1 driver. It was like being at NASA Mission Control.”
Liam Lawson also revealed that he has already experienced unpleasant encounters on social media, receiving insults and abuse following his announcement as a Red Bull driver. “At first, I saw a lot of the insults because I wasn’t expecting them, I wasn’t prepared,” Lawson admitted. “But now, to be honest, I don’t go on social media anymore. I’ll post things for my fanbase, but I won’t scroll through comments or read messages anymore.”
