Flavio Briatore and Alpine’s Progress
Unless one believes that, at 74, Briatore has learned how to work directly on the car, talking about an “effect of Briatore” concerning Alpine’s progress is an exaggeration at best. This does not mean that the arrival of the Piedmontese manager cannot benefit the French team, but the advantages will be evident in the long term. Indeed, Flavio Briatore himself puts the scope of the progress into a more realistic perspective, preferring to focus on the future.
In the Abu Dhabi paddock, Alpine’s consultant explained how the team’s goal is to follow a three-year growth trajectory similar to the one that brought McLaren back to the top of the World Championship.
Flavio Briatore’s Statements
“These results belong to everyone. And I want to congratulate everyone for this team spirit: everyone did an excellent job, and that’s what I want,” he said in a video shared on Alpine’s social media. “I promised Luca de Meo to build a winning team in three years.”
“Alpine became very, very strong at the end of the season. Pierre (Gasly, ed.) did an incredible job. And Jack (Doohan, ed.) did well too; it was his first race. We must remain united and strong, bringing in a few more experienced people to the team. But I like this team. The racing department is changing completely. We are competitive in pit stops, we built a car, and now we will make a fast car. Plus, Pierre is a fantastic driver. Now we have a real racing team.”
