Even in 2024, Lance Stroll proved to be a driver who adds absolutely nothing to Formula 1.
To be clear: if, for any reason, the Canadian were to miss one or more Grands Prix during the year, no one would notice his absence.
Lance Stroll in anonymity…
His complete anonymity, alarming apathy, and lack of any emotional connection mean that, in his case, the sport fails to achieve its primary goal: conveying something to the audience.
In terms of performance, he occasionally manages to deliver interesting weekends, such as Silverstone (where he outperformed Fernando Alonso in mixed conditions) and Melbourne. Yet, at times, he also becomes embarrassing, as in the formation lap of the Brazilian Grand Prix. On that occasion, after spinning at Turn 4, he avoided the asphalt runoff while trying to rejoin the track and ended up stuck in the gravel on his own.
In short, his father Lawrence’s project of making him a Formula 1 drivers’ champion still requires a great deal of work, especially from the driver himself.
Overall, his season rates a 5: a score reflecting his generally subpar performances and his failure to evoke any passion in fans.
With Adrian Newey joining Aston Martin in March 2025, the team will certainly aim for greater achievements in the future.
The real question is whether Lance Stroll will be part of that future, as he sometimes seems somewhat disinterested and unhappy in the paddock…
