Kimi Antonelli pays tribute to Ayrton Senna on the eve of the Brazilian Grand Prix: “It will be a special race”
On Wednesday, Andrea Kimi Antonelli visited the tomb of his idol Ayrton Senna in São Paulo, paying tribute to the Brazilian legend on the eve of the Brazilian Grand Prix. The young Italian driver then spoke on Thursday about the emotional significance of this race through Mercedes’ social media channels.
After regaining strong form in recent races, including a sixth-place finish ahead of teammate George Russell in Mexico City, Kimi Antonelli arrived in Brazil with positive feelings. The Italian driver did not hide how special this weekend is for him, being in the homeland of his hero Ayrton Senna.
Through Mercedes’ social media, Kimi Antonelli said: “Around this time last year, I was talking to you about how I was here in Brazil watching the race. One year later, we’re back here, but this time I’ll be racing on track. I walked along the circuit for the first time last year.”
“It’s incredible, with its elevation changes and corner gradients. It’s a unique track. It looks so much fun, even just watching onboard laps. I can’t wait to get out there. Obviously, we are in the land of my hero, so I think it will be a very special race.” – the Mercedes man pointed out – “We don’t want to think about it too much, because we still want to focus on our processes and doing things right to achieve the best result possible,” added the young Italian driver.
