Will Franco Colapinto find a seat for the 2025 Formula 1 season? Rumors are swirling and growing increasingly persistent. The Argentine driver has caught a lot of attention, and it was only logical for Red Bull to show interest. Various scenarios are emerging in the paddock. Let’s start with the most credible ones.
The scenarios
Currently, Franco doesn’t have a seat for the 2025 season, and the only one still available is with Racing Bulls, where he could share the garage with Yuki Tsunoda. The fact that he’s in the running for that seat supports the rumors of Red Bull’s interest, but to secure it, the 21-year-old would need to outshine Ricciardo, who is still in contention despite indications that the team plans to have the other candidate, Liam Lawson, race in the final rounds of the season. Beating the competition won’t be easy; the 22-year-old New Zealander has also been performing quite well.
Other scenarios hinge on Red Bull deciding not to rely on Sergio Perez’s performance next year. In the second scenario, Liam Lawson joins Max Verstappen, while Franco Colapinto takes a spot with Racing Bulls. In the third, Franco Colapinto would drive for Red Bull, with Liam confirmed alongside Yuki Tsunoda.
Karun Chandhok’s opinion
These scenarios are all appealing, and former driver Karun Chandhok shared his thoughts on them with ‘Sky Sports F1’: “It’s pretty clear there are ongoing conversations with Red Bull since I think he’s very fast and talented. I believe even Williams was surprised by his pace, but it would be a mistake to put him in a Red Bull. It’s simply too soon; Max could crush him. I think Racing Bulls would be a good team for him, an excellent professional step,” Chandhok said, as reported by ‘Crash.net.’
The most remote scenario
In recent hours, another possibility has also surfaced. Considering that Williams doesn’t seem willing to release Franco Colapinto at no cost, Red Bull reportedly explored the idea of bringing Carlos Sainz back, which would allow the Grove-based team to retain the Argentine driver and place him alongside Alex Albon next year. The fourth scenario is the least likely, as it is being discussed only tentatively for now, but remains a possibility. What is certain is that there has been genuine interest from Red Bull. The exact extent of it should become clear in the coming days.
