The last three weekends have been truly disappointing for a team that should consistently demonstrate the reasons why it occupies fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship, behind Mercedes (-296 points) and ahead of the newly chasing Alpine in P6 (+37).
Aston Martin comes out of the triple-header in Texas, Mexico, and Brazil with zero points. The biggest difficulties were faced in São Paulo, where the team also had to deal with issues beyond the world of racing.
Fernando Alonso was not at his best due to the intestinal problems he’s been suffering from since Mexico City (the Asturian driver stated that he finished the race despite the pain to honor his mechanics and the people of Valencia, who are recovering from the recent bad weather that hit the city). On Sunday, he had to deal with a series of incidents during qualifying (damage to both cars) and Lance Stroll’s early and inexplicable retirement during the formation lap. The Canadian made a mistake, went wide, and then, in trying to re-enter the track, left the asphalt and got stuck in the gravel.
Mike Krack apologizes to the drivers: “Fortunately, they are very patient”
A very disappointing triple-header, which team principal Mike Krack commented on: “We had a weekend to forget. We didn’t score points in any of the last three events. These were brutal races.” – he pointed out following the Brazilian Grand Prix.
There’s no need for too many words; it’s a dark time for Aston Martin. The car is no longer able to deliver the performance seen at the beginning of the year, and the manager only has one thing left to do—apologize to the drivers: “We have to take responsibility for it. We are not giving Fernando and Lance the car they deserve. We are asking too much from them, but fortunately, they are very patient,” he concluded, as reported by ‘Marca.com’.
