Jos Verstappen harshly criticized the FIA’s actions following the incident with the Formula 1 world champion. One of the main topics during the Singapore weekend was the tense relationship between Max Verstappen and the FIA. The stewards took issue with the Dutch driver’s language during the press conference, punishing him with several hours of community service to be completed in the coming months.
Several drivers commented on the situation, calling what happened to Max Verstappen embarrassing. From Lewis Hamilton to Charles Leclerc, much of the grid agreed that the Federation should be concerned with more pressing issues than the language used in a press conference.
Jos also against the FIA
Not only Max, but also Jos Verstappen strongly criticized the FIA for what happened with his son. “I think it’s ridiculous,” he said in an exclusive interview with motorsport.com. “I don’t believe the FIA is doing a good job, but I don’t want to elaborate too much on the matter,” added the father of the three-time world champion.
It now remains to be seen how Max Verstappen will behave in Austin after he “sabotaged” all the FIA-organized press conferences in Singapore, only responding outside of official settings.
Additionally, Max Verstappen has repeatedly spoken about the possibility of leaving Formula 1 early if relations with the FIA do not improve. Certainly, it would not be good for the sport to lose a three-time world champion over a few misplaced words in a press conference.
